Description
This Piper L4-J Cub was made in 1944 and started service on August 31, 1944. It has a registration of G-CMIZ and a USAAF serial number of 44-80297. The airframe has a total time of 4672 hours. The engine is a Continental C-85-8 with 72 hours since overhaul. It has a Sensenich 72 x 46 wooden propeller that was serviced by Alan James. The aircraft was completely rebuilt from 2021 to 2025 in the UK. It has new fabric and is painted in the authentic scheme of the 87th Infantry Battalion. This aircraft has significant World War II history and arrived in Europe on September 2, 1944, serving under General George S Patton’s 3rd Army. It was involved in the Battle of the Bulge and at Bastogne. It crossed the Rhine during the advance toward Czechoslovakia. It stayed in Germany until 1946 and was then sold to Belgium for civilian use. It was recovered from Germany in the 1980s and returned to flight in the USA. A full restoration to its original scheme was commissioned, including correct period instruments inspected and serviced by Skysmart UK, completed in early 2025. It is based at a private airstrip in South Oxfordshire. Share options are being considered.
