Description
This P-51D Mustang is being rebuilt to a high standard with two seats and dual controls. It can be bought now and will be ready in about a year. It has the registration number N3024T and serial number A68-603. It was made in Dallas, Texas, and started service on May 16, 1945, as a P-51D-20-NT with construction number 111-36153 and serial number 44-12870. It was flown to Oakland Municipal Airport, CA, and then shipped to Australia on April 18, 1945, arriving on May 24, 1945, with serial number A68-603. The Mustang was stored at RAAF Parkes in May 1946, flown to RAAF Deniliquin in September 1946, and joined 87 Squadron. In November 1948, it was sent to CMU Tocumwal and put up for sale (fuselage only). It was sold on February 23, 1953, to Robert Eastgate with only 23.5 flight hours. The Mustang returned to the USA in 2005 when sold to D J Wisler. Brent Meester of Odegaard Wings bought it in 2007, and the current owner bought it in 2009. The fuselage has been rebuilt and is being outfitted. New wings are coming from Odegaard Wings, and a rebuilt Packard-built Rolls-Royce Merlin engine is expected soon.
